Read the Good Book This Christmas Season with Loved Ones

Penulis : A. James on Sunday, December 5, 2010 | 7:21 PM

Sunday, December 5, 2010

This year don't get caught up in the hustle and bustle of shopping, buying gifts, eating, shopping, gifts, and so on. Set down in a comfy chair and relax with a good book. By good book I mean the Bible, have you heard of it? It is God's words to us. Read about Jesus' birth that took place so many years ago leading us to celebrate His birthday at Christmas time.

Gather the family around you and begin reading in The New Testament. The birth of Jesus if found in Luke chapter 2 beginning in verse 1.

Enjoy family this season and leave a comment about the joy you have shared with others after reading this together. Don't forget those who are home bound or in nursing homes that wait to see if someone will walk through those doors just to read to them.

God bless you all and Merry Christmas!

Philip explains the Bible to the Ethiopian Man

Penulis : A. James on Friday, October 1, 2010 | 10:31 AM

Friday, October 1, 2010

Does the name Philip ring a bell? It should there was a twelve disciple named Philip. but there was also another Philip mentioned in the Bible.

This man named Philip was telling the people of Samaria about Jesus when an angel spoke to him. The angel instructed Philip to go to the desert road that lead from Jerusalem to Gaza.

Philip obeyed and began the walk down the desert road. On this same road an Ethiopian man came riding in a chariot with a Bible scroll in his hands. He was trying to read it and figure out what the words meant. As the chariot came close to Philip he asked the man, "Do you understand what you are reading?"

The man did not and ask Philip to sit beside him in the chariot and tell him what the words meant. Philip explained about Jesus and how the man must ask Jesus to come into his heart if he wanted to go to Heaven. He also told him about baptizism and as he did the Ethiopian man said, "Look, there is water."

So, on the desert road Philip baptized the newly saved man and after he did Philip was immediately whisk away to a new place to teach. Was it magic? Or was it God?

In case you do not know God is all powerful. There is nothing too great or too small for him.

Find this true story in the book of Acts 8:4-6, 26-40 KJV

Crossing Oceans Book Review: As Promised!

Penulis : A. James on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 | 11:29 AM

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Just finished 'Crossing Oceans' by Gina Holmes. Bring a tissue for this one. It is the only book that has ever brought tears to my eyes that continued down my cheeks and dripped onto the pages. This is a story that should be made into a movie for the big screen. There are no flying magical super heroes in the pages, but something better. A real heroine fills the pages whom every woman can learn not just something but, a whole lot of somethings from. Don't want to give away the ending. Just want to say, brace yourself for it!

Pick up a copy at a local bookstore or the internet and begin reading. Once you start it is hard to put it down.

Salvation is the Road Leading to Heaven

Penulis : A. James on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 | 10:23 AM

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

The Bible states plainly, For WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED. Romans 10:13 KJV.

Eternal life awaits those who are saved.

Salvation is the renewing of the spirit. It is a rescue from sin and from death. Without salvation and being cleansed of all sin Heaven cannot be entered into. Salvation cleanses one of all sin. Sin is human nature but, through Jesus Christ all sins are washed away.

The Birth of Jesus Christ is the First Christmas Story

Most everyone has heard the Christmas story. Long ago, Jesus came to earth as a baby being born in a stable. He was surrounded by the animals that lived in the stable. He did not have a warm blanket or a soft bed. Mary, his mother, wrapped Jesus in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger. Sounds like an extraordinary beginning doesn't it?

Did you know swaddling clothes were actually torn cloth that was used to wipe the animals and a manger was what the animals food was dumped into for them to eat. Imagine the horrible smell of the animals that surrounded this wonderful blessing from above. Why would Jesus choose to leave a perfect Heaven and come to a sinful earth? Simple. For human salvation.

With the exception of a few passages not much is told of Jesus as a child. Not until Jesus was thirty years old did the Bible begin to record his ministry. Jesus traveled from town to town teaching and healing for three years then, made his way to an upper room where the Last Supper took place. Here Jesus foretold of one disciple's betrayal. Judas, one of the twelve disciples, sold Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Such a small price for Jesus' life.

Crucifixion of Jesus Christ

It wasn't a surprise to Jesus when the Roman soldiers came to take him away. He knew his crucifixion was at hand. From the beginning of time, a sacrifice had to be given for forgiveness of sin. Now, Jesus would become the last sacrifice. Hanging on the cross he took all sin upon himself, paying the price for all the sin in the world then and now. Yes, he died. But, thank the Lord the story did not end there.

Jesus' body was taken down, wrapped in white linen and placed inside a tomb. A rock was rolled over the opening of the tomb. Three days later when the women come to pour spices on his body, they found something amazing had occurred. The stone had been rolled away and his body wasn't there. Although Jesus in his resurrected body stayed on earth for forty days, he did ascend to Heaven where he now abides until he comes again to rapture those who are saved from this sinful world.

Salvation Leads Straight to Heaven

Getting to Heaven cannot be done by good works alone as many think. Actually, it is much simpler than that.
The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

By believing on Jesus Christ, asking forgiveness of sin, and asking him to come live in your heart thou shalt be saved.

In the Bible Jesus says in John 3:16
For God so loved the world,
that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish
but have eternal life.

By believing on the Lord Jesus Christ and asking for salvation and forgiveness of sin he will give eternal life in Heaven with him and those saved who have gone on before us. Living a life with Jesus will be a rewarding and adventurous one.

Kentucky's Country Music Highway

Penulis : A. James on Monday, July 26, 2010 | 8:28 AM

Monday, July 26, 2010

In 1994 highway 23 became known as, The Country Music Highway, which winds and twists along 144 miles of country road stretching across seven counties. It was recognized as a National Scenic Byway in 2002 and is home to many popular country music stars. Follow the road to find Loretta Lynn's infamous home, "The Home Place", in Van Lear, Ky. Traveling North you will find "The Paramount Arts Center" where Billy Ray Cyrus launched his career filming his video for "Achy Breaky Heart". Country stars like Tom T. Hall, Wynonna & Naomi Judd, Ricky Skaggs, and Crystal Gail have roots planted along the way as well.

Many State Parks cascade along the byway too! Greenbo State Park, Kingdom Come State Park, and Jenny Wiley State Park to name a few. If camping is not your idea of fun, how about a Chili Fest, Summer Motion, or Poage Landing Days? There is also the Historic Courthouses and Flood Wall Murals. Golf, fishing, singing, dancing, shopping, arts & crafts, horse back riding, museums, canoeing, etc. are some of the amazing things to see and to do. Your sure to find something the whole family will remember to tell the great-grand children.

The famous Hatfield-McCoy Feud also took place along the byway. Although the families ended the feud long ago they still meet for the Hatfield-McCoy reunion.
Whatever your pleasure, the Country Music Highway is a great adventure for the whole family. Don't forget to pack a camera for the memories to last a lifetime.

My 'sister'

Penulis : A. James on Friday, July 23, 2010 | 2:29 PM

Friday, July 23, 2010

Well, my ’sister’ isn’t really my sister. She is my cousin. Actually, she isn’t even my cousin because she is adopted. Her parents didn’t want her so, my aunt and uncle took her along with her younger brother. She is so stressed out because she is still not sure what adopted means. She has nightmares about what happened to her before she came to live with my aunt. It makes me want to cry just thinking about what she must have went through.
The one memory that I remember with her was when she first came to my aunt and uncle’s house. My family and I went over to their house to see her and her brother. I made sure that I had something to give her that would make her feel welcome. I spent a while thinking of the perfect present for a 5 year old girl. In the end, I decided to give her a Princess I Spy book. It had been used and some pages were ripped but, it meant a lot to me.
I walked into my aunt and uncles house carrying he book in two sweaty hands. I seen Amber sitting down on the couch by her new ‘mom’. I felt so bad for her. I handed her the book and she ran away. My heart dropped. She didn’t like me. I sat down on the couch, shoulders slumped and a frown upon my face. The person I thought was my new ‘best friend’ didn’t even want to sit by me.
My aunt went to talk to Amber for a while and then she and Amber re-entered the living room. Amber gave me a hug and said a simple: Thank you.
I knew from that moment we would be best friends! She showed me her room in the house. It looked like a garbage dump but, she was so excited about it. There wasn’t even girly bed sheets but, to her, it was amazing. We played the rest of the day.
Now, three years later, we are still best friends! She looks up to me as a role-model and I know I can tell her any secret and she wouldn’t tell a soul! We are just like sisters, even though we aren’t I love her!
Thank you and I love you Amber!!!

Furniture for the Extreme...

The work of artist David Delthony is nothing short of amazing. He is working as a freelance artist/furniture designer in Utah after moving from West Berlin, Germany. He was born in New York but, later his Peace Corps volunteer work led him to Turkey.

What kind of furniture do you think this is? Leave comment.

David has achieved what many people only dream about. Not wanting to sacrifice the artistic value of his work he makes each piece functional as well. He is a Master Cabinetmaker spending hours of work on each piece.

What kind of tools does he use to make these magnificent pieces?

When a vision of a new piece comes to mind he begins by making a rough shape before moving onto chainsaw sculpting. Yes, that is right, I said chainsaw sculpting! After sanding and finishing each piece it becomes not just furniture but, a peice of art. If you would like to see more of David's work visit http://www.sculpturedfurnitureartandceramics.com/david1.htm

Before leaving the site be sure to check out his wife Brigitte's work!

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Praise God!
